National Veterinary Technician Week

AVMA Vet Tech Week 2015
October 11-17 is National Veterinary Technician Week. This special week is a time dedicated to the important work that veterinary technicians do at veterinary hospitals and clinics every day. Similar to human nurses, veterinary technicians perform a wide range of tasks to ensure patients receive the medical care they need. They play many roles such as surgical assistant, anesthetist, laboratory technician, client educator, and, sometimes, they have to play the pet entertainer and cuddler to comfort a patient.

At VSEC, our goal is to provide innovative and expert care with compassion and personal attentiveness, and our veterinary technicians make that possible every day. Our registered veterinary technicians are dedicated to working together to provide the best care possible to the animals that come to the hospital. We’d like to recognize each and every one of them for their commitment and passion.

Hear from one of our own, Clara Pelton, RVT!

VSEC Clara RVTWhat made you choose to become a veterinary technician?

“I have always had a close connection with animals. Ever since I was a little girl I would try to nurse injured animals, including wildlife. When I got into high school, I decided to get a job at a veterinary clinic around the corner from my school. Once I was hired, everything about the field fascinated me; and the more I learned, the more I wanted to know. It became clear that becoming an RVT was my calling in life so I decided to pursue a career in something I would love to do for the rest of my life.”

What do you love the most about being a veterinary technician at VSEC?

“My doctor. She is amazing, compassionate, and down to earth. Working alongside Dr. Tangeman makes my job easy, fun, and exciting. I have worked with many doctors before and she is, hands down, the easiest and most enjoyable doctor to work with and for.”
